subtitled “Lighting Fires, Ritual Space, Maladaw†å‡ç«ï¼Œç¥å ´ï¼Œé¦¬å•¦é“. In his explanation
of the meaning of the subtitle Adaw states: “[…] we mainly wish to express—Let us gather
together in the spirit of living, dancing, interaction, creation and passing things on.†[…] 主è¦
表é”——讓我們èšåœ¨ä¸€èµ·ç”Ÿæ´»ï¼ŒæŒèˆžï¼Œäº¤æµï¼Œå¸ç¿’ï¼Œå‰µé€ åŠå‚³æ‰¿çš„精神。54 He then
goes on to exploit the deliberate double entendres in the subtitle: “Lighting fires (shenghuo å‡
ç«)—because [fire] is the source of all ‘life’ (shenghuo 生活) and creation. Ritual space (jichang
ç¥å ´)—Shaman means to dance (巫者舞也). ‘Ritual’ means ‘Theatre’ (juchang åŠ‡å ´) […] The
meaning of ‘Lighting Fires, Ritual Space’ is ‘Theatre of Life’ ç”Ÿæ´»åŠ‡å ´.â€55 Adaw’s ceremonial
theatre is thus a theatre of the rituals of life. It is his manner of returning to his roots, his center,
and of constructing a distinctive voice sourced from his cultural heritage.
